Abstract
One of the water's chemical parameters is hardness. According Regulation the Minister of Health Republic Indonesia Number 32 of 2017. The maximum permissible level of total hardness in water is 500 mg /L. The determination of hardness (CaCO3) can be done with some method, including the complexometric titration method and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). This research using literatur review. The purpose of this literature review was to determine the effectiveness of the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method and the complexometric titration method in the analysis of groundwater hardness levels. Complexometric titration methods and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) are method generally and are both used for the analysis of water hardness levels in the laboratory, but the SSA method has more specific advantages compared the complexometric titration method, because the SSA method can analyze Ca and Mg levels separately. The SSA method also has a high sensitivity to analysis metal in shape the atom. So that the results of the hardness analysis in water samples have high accuracy compared to the complexometric titration method. The level of accuracy in the SSA method is higher that is 35% compared to complexometric titration that is 30.20%. In addition to the accuracy value of the SSA method, it also has a lower detection limit than the complexometric titration method. The limit of detection for SSA is Ca 0.2 mg / L while the detection limit of the complexometric titration is 5 mg / L, so that the SSA method is more effective for water hardness analysis.
Keywords: water hardness, clean water quality, complexometric titration, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS).
