Abstract

Snack Food is Food that is prepared and sold by street vendors on the streets and in other public crowded places which is directly eaten or consumed without further processing or preparation. The term snack is not far from the term junk food, fast food, and street food because these terms are part of the term snack. The purpose of this study was to determine whether snacks in Besuki Village, Besuki District, Situbondo Regency contain Borax compounds. This research is a research with qualitative analysis using Turmeric Paper Test. The results showed that from 10 samples of snacks in the Situbondo area, there were 2 samples of snacks that were positive for Borax or only 20% were marked by a reddish-brown color. Meanwhile, 8 samples of snacks that were negative containing borax or 80% were indicated by the presence of a yellow or permanent color. Samples of snacks that were positive for borax included Sempol and processed crackers (Puli). This proves that snacks in Besuki village, Besuki sub-district, Situbondo regency there are still samples containing borax preservatives which are prohibited for consumption.
