Abstract

Dengue fever is a disease caused by Aedes aegypti mosquito. The use of chemical larvicides has often been carried out and has caused insecticide resistance, therefore it is necessary to control the vector that causes dengue naturally. Chitinolytic bacteria are bacteria that can produce chitinase enzymes that play a role in degrading chitin and have the potential to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Alternative media that can be used for breeding is chitin agar media. This research is experimental type of research using bacterial sources from shrimp shell immersion water and river water, with different concentrations (1%,2%,and 3%) based on the results of statistical tests obtained a significance value <0.05 with total mortality Aedes aegypti larvae in water immersion shrimp shells as many 50 and in river water as many 58 larvae from 80 larvae tested with the highest mortality at a concentration of 3%. This shows that there is a difference between isolates of chitinolytic bacteria, and a difference between in the variations concentration of chitinolytic bacteria in causing the death of Aedes aegypti larvae. Based on this, chitinolytic bacteria can degrade the exoskeleton of Aedes aegypti larvae and cause death in Aedes aegypti larvae.
