Abstract

Iron is a chemical compound that is toxic or toxic in high levels and can cause losses ranging from damaging equipment made of zinc to causing various diseases. Therefore groundwater with high iron content requires a handling so that the water can be used as a daily necessity. This research aims to find out the most effective technique in lowering iron levels in groundwater. This research is a review literature study using a qualitative descriptive research design with an experimental approach. The reduction techniques discussed in this study are filtration, aeration, adsorption, coagulation, electrocoagulation, and cascade aeretator techniques. The results showed that filtration techniques can lower the average iron level by 95.19%, the aeration technique can lower the average iron level by 92.77%, Combined adsorption and filtration techniques can lower average iron levels by 99.1%, coagulation techniques can lower average iron levels by 47.8%, electrocoagulation techniques can lower average iron levels by 98.79%, and in cascade aeretator techniques can lower average iron levels by 79.50%. The conclusion of this study is that all techniques can lower the iron levels contained in groundwater. Based on the percentage decrease in combined techniques between adsorption and filtration is the most effective declining technique.
